Peter Solomon has been an active participant in judicial reform projects, including the Canada-Russia Judicial Partnership (2000-2008) and the Canada-Ukraine Judicial Cooperation Project (2006-2011), which are both funded by CIDA. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institut prava i publichnoi politiki (Moscow) and on the editorial boards of three journals, and a former Director of the Centre for Russian and East European Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs.
Research
interests: Soviet and post-Soviet politics; the politics of
criminal justice in various countries. Author of Soviet
Criminologists and Criminal Policy (1978), Criminal Justice
Policy, From Research to Reform (1983), Soviet Criminal Justice
under Stalin (1996); co-author of Courts and Transition in
Russia: The Challenge of Judicial Reform and Crime, Criminal
Justice and Criminology in Post-Soviet Ukraine (2001); editor
of Reforming Justice in Russia, 1864-1996 (1997).
His
current research includes (1) judicial and legal reform in
contemporary Russia and Ukraine; (2) courts, law and politics
in authoritarian and transitional regimes; (3) and the history
of criminal justice in the USSR.
