Program Highlighted | Environmental Studies Introduction | Director of Environmental Studies, Dr. Beth Savan If you don't want to wait until you graduate to help solve environmental problems, the Innis Environmental Studies Program is the place for you! Our Program includes a close-knit group of students and faculty committed to understanding environmental problems and working to foster progressive environmental policy. The curriculum provides both intellectual challenge and practical preparation for environmental work and graduate study, integrated with strong training in the academic and applied skills you'll need. If you enroll in the Environmental Studies Program, you'll learn about the important issues in the environmental field today, and get to know many of the people most involved in studying and addressing them. Our faculty combine scholarship with professional involvement in the environmental field: our instructors include a senior government official who works on energy policy, a municipal politician heavily involved in environmental issues, a medical doctor specializing in environmental health, an environmental economist, and an environmental lawyer. Our courses will engage you in the environmental community, from our second year project to our professional experience and group research courses in fourth year. Finally, we help our students to subsidize their education, through the Pimlott Scholarships and Awards, and the many part-time jobs we offer through the Environmental Studies Program as well as the environmental projects based in our offices. Visit our website at http://www.utoronto.ca/envstudy/ to find out more about us! The Innis College environmental programs provides students with a unique combination of rigorous training in the academic and practical skills essential to work in the environmental field, as well as exposure to the people and organizations active in environmental work in Canada. An applied interdisciplinary approach is used, with a focus on the understanding, development and implementation of progressive environmental policy and practice. The curriculum has been carefully designed to educate students in a range of topical issues, including environmental policy and health and sustainable cities. Each course carefully builds on the skills developed in the previous courses in the program. Small class sizes and accessible faculty enhance opportunities for intellectual growth. Core program courses incorporate innovative multi-media modules.
