Program Highlighted | Economics & Political Science
Interview with | Vivek Krishnamurthy

Date | November 2001

Introduction |

Although the methods of Economics and Political Science have tended to diverge over the years, the subject matter continues to overlap. In fact, the expansion of government involvement in economic life in recent decades has stimulated new interest in the possibility of bringing to bear on issues of public policy both the broad perspective of Political Science and the analytical precision of modern Economics. Recent literature also contains indications of tendencies, at least in some branches of Economics and Political Science, for the theoretical and methodological approaches of the two disciplines to converge upon one another, making this one of the more exciting fields of enquiry in contemporary social science.

Students are required to complete 15 courses for this program; 8 in Economics and 7 in Political Science. These include the study of areas such as Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Theory, Economic History, Comparative Politics (Developing and/or Industrial), International Relations, Political Theory and special topics in third and fourth-year seminars.

Services offered by both the Union of Political Science Students (UPSS) as well as the Economics Course Organization may be used by students in this joint program. These groups sponsor academic and social events, represent students on department committees and gives information and advice to students.
