EDWIN BOYD: CITIZEN GANGSTER
Cinema Studies alumna Allison Black (HBA 1998) and Victoria College alumnus Nathan Morlando’s first feature film Edwin Boyd premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and received the Skyy Vodka Award for Best Canadian First Feature.
In May 2012, Innis College alumni and friends enjoyed a pre-theatre screening of Edwin Boyd in Innis Town Hall.
The screening was followed by a Q&A and panel discussion featuring the film’s director Nathan Morlando, producer Allison Black and supporting actor Kevin Durand. The discussion was moderated by filmmaker Patricia Rozema, CSI's 2010/2011 Universal Screenwriter-in-Residence.
Edwin Boyd is based on the true story of a WWII vet and family man turned bank robber. Frustrated and disillusioned by his post war circumstances, Eddie Boyd (Scott Speedman) is a man torn between the need to provide for his young family and an unfulfilled dream to head to Hollywood to become a star. When he discovers a way to satisfy both needs - robbing banks "Hollywood Style" - his dream for stardom leads him down an unexpected path of gangsterism, danger and tragedy.
