Microsoft Select License Agreement
Description:
The Microsoft Select License Agreement allows the Licensed Software Office to distribute a number of Microsoft software products at a substantial discount for University of Toronto departments, faculty, and staff on University of Toronto owned workstations. If you would like to purchase Microsoft products for personal use you must purchase them from the UofT Computer Shop.
Microsoft licenses its products on a per-workstation basis. A license must be purchased for each workstation that the software will be installed on.
The select agreement also allows "Downgrade Rights". This means that you purchase the license for the latest version of the product but can install and use a prior version. The agreement does not allow for upgrade of products at discounted prices. If you wish to install a newer version of a currently owned product, a new license must be purchased.
Please visit the Microsoft Licensing website for detailed licensing information on all of their products: http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/userights/

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: When activating Microsoft Office, receive the message “This is not a valid Office Product Key”.
A: This error will be corrected by following the steps below:- Activation must be performed by an account with administrative privileges.
- Trial versions of the product must be uninstalled before installation of Office 2010.
- Check the add/remove programs control panel
- Ensure that the workstation has an internet connection when activating.
- If you have downloaded and installed the Office 2010 Proofing Tools Kit dated Nov 5, 2010 or earlier follow these instructions to correct the issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2463130
Q: How do I activate Microsoft Windows 7?
A: Using the product key listed on the front of the CD, follow the instructions provided by Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/genuine/product-key
Q: What is difference between Microsoft Office Professional Plus and Standard?
A: Take a look at the comparison chart provided by Microsoft.
Q: I do not see a 64-bit version of the Office products listed on the site.
A: Microsoft has the following recommendation:
- Microsoft strongly recommends the use of 32-bit (x86) versions of Office 2010, Project 2010, and Visio 2010 applications as the default option for all platforms. Learn more about the deployment considerations for x64 and x86 at TechNet.
Q: We are planning on doing a large deployment of Windows 7, should we use the Product Code listed on the CD?
A: Normally the LSO distributes MAK license keys which are listed on the CD/DVD of certain products. Our office as well as Microsoft strongly suggest that if you will be installing the product on more than 50 workstations that you use a KMS key. This requires the setup of a KMS server for users to connect to and activate. The reason for this is that an MAK key can only be activated a certain number of times before it can no longer be used. If you have already purchased, or plan on purchasing, for deploying to more than 50 workstations please contact us and we can provide you with a KMS key.
