2. Conferences, Seminars, Lectures

Building on sponsorships of conferences at York, Brock and its own highly acclaimed conference on transitology at the University of Toronto, the Institute will continue to sponsor and organise conferences at the University of Toronto. The scope and calibre of conferences, seminars and lectures sponsored by the HRIC has been impressive. Many of the events organised by the HRIC have had important consequences in influencing business relations and foreign policy in particular the establishment of year-round direct flights between Canada and Hungary through Canadian Airlines as well as Hungary’s inclusion into NATO. The first conference of this new series will be held jointly with the Department of History, and has been rescheduled for April 2000 (partly due to lack of funding to hold it earlier, but also in anticipation of the new millennium), and will deal with the history of Hungary between 1948 and 1989, an era of major historical interest.

Goal: $150,000
