1. Visiting Statesmen and Scholars Lectureship Program
The Institute has a distinguished record in bringing Hungarian statesmen
(with strong academic credentials) to the University of Toronto. Our
previous guests include the Hungarian President, Árpád Göncz,
the Foreign Minister, Géza Jeszenszky, several ministers, and the
secretaries of state for foreign affairs. Visiting Statesmen can provide
an insight into both the political and social mechanisms at work in
reshaping the region of Central Europe and their effect on security and
socio-economic issues. We have also invited academics whose works have
been influential in advising policy makers, including Anders Aslund,
adviser to both the U.S. and Ukrainian governments. The HRIC intends to
expand its successful Visiting Statesmen and Scholars Lectureship
program to allow increased number of visits to, as well as prolonged
stays at, the University of Toronto. Visits consist of both a lecture and
lecture series for students and faculty, and an opportunity for more
informal meetings with these influential guests by the faculty as well as
individuals and organisations from the community outside the University.
Goal: $750,000
