Range Back to Normal Shooting

Halloween is again a thing of the past, the range is now back to normal shooting. It'll be good to finish your Blue-Red-Gold scores so you can enter the club tournament coming up soon.

M.M

19.10.2005

Halloween anyone?

Halloween is upon us! And with it the first fun shot of the year. Tuesday and Thursday next week we will shoot at something other than paper with cricles, and prizes will be handed out on a semi-random basis, everyone have a chance to win! Heh I sound like the lottery person, but anyhow, it is great fun.

M.M

07.10.2005

Mini Lessons

Did you know we're having a mini lesson (10 minutes) every shooting day at 6:00 covering the techniques of shooting? They come in bite size and have a lot more details than the beginner lessons.

M.M

07.10.2005

Blue/Red/Gold Development System

By now almost all of you have had a chance at shooting in the range, and you might also have noticed that the range can be configured to shoot at a much longer distances.

This is where BRG Development system comes in. It is a sort of certification system which help you gradually improve your shooting skills and qualifies you to shoot at longer distances. For example, if I was shooting at 10m and wish to move up to the next distance (15m) I'll be required to do a score, during which I'll be shooting 15 arrows (3 per end, for 5 ends), if I get more than 75 points out of the possible 150, then I am free to shoot at 15 meters.

For the formal rules of scoring, please talk to one of the range officers as it is much easier to explain when there's a target handy.

I should stress that the BRG System is not a test (god knows we have enough of those elsewhere already), you decide when you're ready and there's no penalty for failure. if your score didn't turn out as well as you have expected, simply ask one of the range officers to look at you while you shoot. We're always around to help, all you have to do is ask.

For those of you who were shooting at the 18m targets this week, I understand if you're eager to shoot at longer ranges or if you already have some shooting experience. However, please refrain from shooting at those targets until you have completed at least the Blue and Red stage of your development. If there's any questions please email us at archery.harthouse@utoronto.ca.

Hope you've enjoyed your shooting experience,

M.M

Beginner Lessons Over

It's done, the last of the beginner lessons have been officially completed.

If you missed your lesson, you must come back in January. All members of the club, returning and new, can now come freely and shoot during range hours, which are 1700-2000 on Tuesdays  and Thursdays.

Here is a quick recap on Range Safety and How to Shoot. Also you can go to this thread on the forum for some additional tips and ask any questions you might have (Guest accounts are allowed).

Please take the range safety guidelines seriously, and Range Officers reserve the right to remove you from the range if your actions are in clear violation of major safety rules and is endangering yourself/other members.

The club does not have a requirement for attendance, you can show up as often or as little as you like, for as long as you like. Whether you aspire to be a competition archer or just want to do some stress relief, the club is above all else a place for you and to have a good time.

So in the meantime, take care and I'll see you next week.

Beginner lesson schedule offline

I have been unable to go to the archery range since last Thursday which means that the online version of the schedule is hopelessly out of sync with the official version kept at the shooting range.

For those who have not made requests to change their beginner lesson schedule, and just want to check up on their lesson time, the old schedule can still be viewed at the Archive page.

For those who did make request to change their lesson time to this Tuesday via Email in the past 5 days, there is a good chance that there's enough empty slots that you'll get a lesson today whatever happens. However please drop by around 5:15 to sign yourself up to that slot.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Updated Beginner Lesson Schedule

Firstly I want to thank everyone who came to the demo, the updated beginner lesson schedule is as follows, if you see any mistakes please email to archery.harthouse@utoronto.ca.

Please see more recent announcements for the beginner lesson schedule.

I wish to stress that the beginner lesson is really important and that you will not be allowed to shoot in the range unless you have already taken the lesson. All it takes is 30 minutes and it is to your advantage to make the effort to attend the lesson.

Having said that, I also understand that last minute conflict can happen. If you're unable to make to your assigned lesson, please email us and we'll reschedule you on a first-come-first-served basis

If you missed your lesson for whatever reason, please let us know and do not randomly come to another lesson as as you will not be allowed in anyways if the lesson is full. We'll try our best to reschedule you to at time that will work for both parties.

We're looking for suggestions on a restaurant to hold the club banquet at. Preferably a licensed place that can hold around 20-25 people, downtown, where we could go in semi-formal or semi-casual and relatively inexpensive (i.e. $15-20 a plate) with the capacity to work around food allergies. Please email archery.harthouse@utoronto.ca with any suggestions.

Did you notice the new page?!? That's the latest addition to our awesome club. Thanks to Mark who created it. If you have any concerns, spelling mistakes you'd like to point out or just general commentary, please send them to archery.harthouse@utoronto.ca. Special thanks to Steve Megesson who supplied the picture of the bow in the main header graphic.
