2011 GASP Executive Election

To all Physiology Graduate Students,
The Graduate Association of Students in Physiology will hold their 2011 to 2012 Executive Council Election on September 1st, 2011.
Event: 2011-2012 GASP Executive Election
Time: Thursday, September 01, 2011 5PM
Where: MSB 3227
The Executive Council consists of:
1. President
2. Vice President
3. Treasurer
4. Secretary.
Refer to executive council responsibilities below.
The President shall:
- Serve as the lead representative of the Physiology graduate student body;
- Oversee all activities of GASP and responsible for the internal action of the council;
- Serve as the primary advocate for current graduate student issues to Physiology;
- Call monthly General Council meetings;
- Ensure that the affairs of GASP are conducted in a fiscally responsible manner;
- Cast the final decision in event where decisions are split;
The Vice-President shall:
- Act as chair for the annual research symposium, Frontier in Physiology;
- Act as support for President;
- Serve as Acting President if President is unable to be present at GASP Council meeting;
- Ensure the GASP is achieving its mission objectives;
- Assume the duties of the President in his absence or inability to fulfill his responsibilities;
The Secretary shall:
- Bring attention to the Executive Council of concerns brought up by graduate students in Physiology;
- Inform Physiology graduate students of approved GASP and related events via email;
- Be responsible for the recording of minutes of the Executive / General Council meetings;
- Inform and remind GASP Council members of items discussed in the meetings via email and the
- Keep records of all GASP Council meeting information such as members present during the meeting
- Be involved in subcommitteesthat are in charge of certain events/decision-making.
- Maintain Physiology student & supervisor master email list;
The Treasurer shall:
- Be the financial officer of the GASP, together with the President, be responsible for thefinancial stability of GASP;
- Be responsible for the bank account of GASP in order to maintain financial stability;
- Be responsible for maintaining receipts of all financial transactions, for keeping a ledgerin which all debits, credits, cheques, and remaining bank balance, as well as the date arerecorded, for maintaining and organizing bank records, and for conducting annual audits (ifapplicable) in accordance with policies established by Student Affairs, University of Toronto;
- Be responsible, along with the President, for the application for the annual “head grant”from the Graduate Students’ Union;
- Be responsible for the preparation of an annual budget at the start of fiscal year;
- Present current statements of accounts versus budget, and cash flowpositions at Executive Council meetings;
- Be responsible for the preparation of an annual financial report at the end of the fiscalyear.
To be eligible for the position of President and Vice President, you must be with the Department of Physiology for at least one year and have attended Frontier in Physiology previously.
