suitable for advanced Cinema Studies students and graduate students.
INI 484H counts towards
Specialist and Major programmes in Cinema Studies.
Course Description
The course will investigate
histories of the major international film festivals, as well as institutional
politics and structures, contributions to cinematic discourse and production
of cinephiliac spectators. It will be a primary research course at an advanced
level. No creditable academic writing is yet available in the field, so students
will have the opportunity of making a major contribution to scholarship through
participation in this course.
Students will be assigned
areas for research, and the progress of the course will be determined by the
seminar presentations that result from that research. A tentative list of films
to be screened is available.
Films will be screened
every week. Attendance at screenings, keeping up with readings, and participating
in class discussions are essential.
Purpose of the Course
Advanced inquiry into the
history and institutional operations of major international film festivals,
as well as their contributions to the cinematic system of production and dissemination.
