I. In-Class Term Test (worth 15%). November 11, 2009.


II. Fall Assignment (worth 20%). Due date: December 1, 2009.

Topics and format TBA.


III. Term Paper (worth 30%). Due date: March 1, 2010.

This will be a major term paper (approximately 15 pp.). It should include scholarly research, analysis of film texts, and original thought. No extensions will be allowed.

All papers should be typewritten in a standard font (12-14 point) and double-spaced. To conserve paper, please print double-sided.

In preparing work, all students are expected to uphold ethical standards of conduct. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. This means that:
· unless collaborative work is called for by the assignment, you are expected to complete your work independently.
· all sources (written, oral, or electronic) used in an assignment must be cited. Whether you quote directly or paraphrase, you must document your citation according to a standard format such as that presented in Writer’s Choice (M. Northey and M. Procter), MLA Handbook, or Chicago Manual of Style.
· You may not hand in the same paper for credit in two (or more) courses.

A list of suggested topics is included below. Choose your topic early and be sure to check it with me.


IV. Term Test (worth 15%). Due date: April 1, 2010.

This will be a take-home test on the material read this term.

Hand your test in to me, Rm. 232, Innis College. No test will be accepted after 5:00 p.m., Thurs. April 1, 2010.


V. Class Participation (worth 20%).

You are expected to attend all classes and to be punctual and attentive. Everyone is expected to contribute to class discussions in a consistent and productive manner. Given the relatively small size of this class and the theoretical nature of the material, it is imperative that students come to class prepared to discuss the assigned articles and films.
