Organization Profile

Institute for Terotechnology (ITeE) in Radom is a state-owned scientific and research institute established in 1986. The Institute is involved in complex scientific, research, development and implementation projects. The Institute has „A", the highest category in the Polish scientific institutions classification. It employs about 300 persons. The scientific and research work is conducted by 8 professors, 28 doctors and 124 assistants and specialists representing different fields of science, among others education, pedagogy and economics, including 112 people with pedagogical qualifications. Among our employees we have the World Bank experts and the European Commission expert within the Fifth Framework Programme. The Institute co-operates with about 300 experts from over 40 European scientific research institutions, enterprises, secondary and higher schools and with many Polish institutions, including regional centres of administration development.

The Staff Education and Development Centre is a separate unit of ITeE. It is active in the areas of adult, continuing and vocational education. The Centre carries out vocation related research, studies into educational systems, education quality assurance, evaluation of educational effectiveness, designs curricula and educational contents, organises conferences, seminars and training sessions. More than 200 curricula specifications for basic, secondary, higher and postgraduate schools and for courses were development here. About 6500 managers, teachers, workers of education and administration were trained. At training sessions, seminars and conferences the Institute's Publishing House publishes 13 national scientific magazines, 2 monographic series and over 120 titles of books a year in its own Printing House.

Since 1994 the Institute has been involved in international programmes, among others financed out of the PHARE funds, i.e. TESSA, UPET/IMPROVE, SPREAD, TERM-IAE, SIERRA-APPLE, SMART and also other programmes, such as LEONARDO DA VINCI, Jean MONNET, COST Programmes, which was combined with educational and publishing activity. The basic task of international co-operation is to support the Institute's own research, utilise international experience for the purpose of the modernisation of the educational system in Poland.

Since the beginning of its activity, the Institute for Terotechnology in Radom has participated in the work aimed at improvement of the vocational education system in Poland. After 1990 it took over most of the tasks executed earlier by the closed down Institute of Vocational Education (Instytut Kszta_cenia Zawodowego) in Warsaw, these including:

  • research on the contents of the job descriptions for positions in industry and construct ion (mechanical, electric, electronic, leather related jobs),
  • research and development of vocational education curricula, among others modular curricula,
  • comparative studies of vocational education systems
  • in-service training of vocational subject teachers.

The Ministers of National Education, Economy and Labour and Social Policy, as well as the National Labour Office, vocational schools taking part in pedagogical experiments, school superintendent offices and vocational development centres were the addresses of the results of the work performed (carried out) by the institute.

Institute for Terotechnology in Radom as well as Institute of Educational Research in Warsaw (institution co-operating in the Project) are the only organisations in Poland involved in vocational education and supporting the reform of the educational system. The Institute has participated in the execution of PHARE Projects and scientific projects supervised by of the State Committee for Scientific Research for many years. The list of the projects in question is given in the table below.

The Institute co-operates with about 300 experts from over 40 European scientific-research institutions, enterprises, secondary and higher schools. It also co-operates with numerous Polish institutions, among others, with the Polish Centre of Testing and Certification, the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs, The National Labour Office in the field of quality and certification, standards and research on human resources.

The Institute's scientific workers have been carrying out activities in the area of standards, accreditation and quality assurance systems for ten years. Eight scientific workers of the Institute obtained certificates of assessors (D32) in the English system of National Vocational Qualifications and 5 of them-certificates of internal verifiers (D34) (in co-operation with the Sheffield College and BTEC). Three workers hold the certificate of "Auditor of quality management systems in the field of education" and "Plenipotentiary for quality systems management in the field of education" awarded by CERTQUA-German Accredited Certification Institution. Every year scientific workers of the Institute take part in study visits and methodological workshops in the European Union countries. During study visits organised within the Leonardo da Vinci Programme they obtained additional qualifications in the fields of quality assurance systems, standards, certification of institutions and personnel. The laboratories of Maintenance Liquids Research and Material Research at the Institute for Terotechnology obtained accreditation certificates concerning conformity to requirements of the PN-EN 45001 standard and the Guidebook ISO/IEC 25:1990. Moreover, the Institute's Experimental Plant obtained the quality certificate attesting conformity with the ISO 9001 standard requirements. At the moment Department of Staff Development as well as, the Publishing and Printing House are of preparing for the quality system implementation.

The Institute for Terotechnology in Radom has in-depth experience in co-ordination of big research programmes (national programmes CPBR, RPBR, international PHARE Programmes) and in co-operation with domestic and foreign institutions. For this purpose a co-operation network of scientific institutions, vocational schools and adult education organisations was created in Poland (The Adult Education Organisation Charter). The Institute co-operates also with educational networks abroad (International Network of Modular Training Providers &endash; ILO, European Educational Research Association &endash; EERA, European Association for International Education &endash; EAIE, European Symposium on Voluntary Associations &endash; ESVA).

    - In 1992-94 I carried out the marketing of ITeE Publishers and Printing House in Radom taking part in National and International Book Fairs in Warsaw and other promotions.

    - Since 1992 I elaborated training courses programmes as „Using computers within the professional work" or methodical courses for teachers organised jointly with English partners or experimental modular curricula for economists and information technologists within TESSA Project.

    - Since March 1992 I supported international co-operation and European programmes for Poland carried out by our Institute by translations texts and correspondence and interpreting talks during meetings, study visits and training courses.

    - In 1994 I took part and co-organised a cycle of seminars for over 200 vocational subjects teachers, managers of school workshops and headteachers of school for the Radom province concerning vocational education in a modular system, among others

    - In 1993-94 I took part in working out the job descriptions for about 300 professions prepared for the needs of new Polish Classification of Occupations according to the requirements of classification ISCO-88.

    - In 1992-94 I carried out the marketing of ITeE Publishers and Printing House in Radom taking part in National and International Book Fairs in Warsaw and other promotions.

    - Since 1992 I elaborated training courses programmes as „Using computers within the professional work" or methodical courses for teachers organised jointly with English partners or experimental modular curricula for economists and information technologists within TESSA Project.

    - Since March 1992 I supported international co-operation and European programmes for Poland carried out by our Institute by translations texts and correspondence and interpreting talks during meetings, study visits and training courses.
