Who pays for electronic journals?

Some people assume that electronic journals are "free web sites". But in fact the vast majority of electronic ("online") journals are not free of charge. Publishers charge considerable sums for subscriptions to e-journals, just as they do with print journals (and they charge libraries much more than they would charge an individual).

Most of the e-journals on our list of current dentistry-related journals are paid for University of Toronto Libraries, which license them for use by members of the University of Toronto community. They can be viewed from any computer on the U of T campus. U of T students, faculty, and staff can also view them from off campus by using a proxy server account, a UTORdial account, or Megabit Access. For more details, please see Accessing electronic resources from home.
