All the required texts for the Doctor of Dental Surgery program are kept on reserve (short-term
loan), along with
certain recommended texts and some other popular items. If you would like to borrow one of
the reserve items listed below, please request it at the public service desk in the Dentistry Library.
Lists of items on reserve
You can look up a reserve item by title, author, or subject:
Short-term ("overnight") loan
- Most reserve items can be borrowed on short-term loan (with the exception of those marked
"Reference", which can only be used within the library).
Reserve items can be taken out of the library at 12:30 p.m. or later, on a first-come,
first-served basis (i.e., the first person waiting at the public service desk at 12:30 is served first).
Items borrowed overnight must be
returned by 9:30 a.m. the next day (or, if they are borrowed on a Friday afternoon, they are due
back by 9:30 a.m. the following Monday.)
Prior to 12:30 p.m., reserve items can only be used within the library. Please note
that using a book within the library prior to 12:30 does NOT affect your chances of borrowing the
book after 12:30.
The fine for an overdue reserve item is 50 cents per hour.
Short-term loans cannot be renewed.
- Please note that reserve items must be returned to the Dentistry Library directly (not to another
U of T library).
Use within the library
Reserve books can also be borrowed for use within the library at any time. If you are using a
reserve
book in the library prior to 12:30 p.m., please return it to the public service desk at 12:30. (If no
one is waiting to take it out, you may continue using it in the library.)
Limit
The Dentistry Library reserves the right to limit the number of reserve items a person can borrow at
one time.
Additional copies not on reserve
Please note that for many reserve titles, there are additional copies which are not on reserve;
these can be borrowed for one week. Often these are earlier editions of the title which is on
reserve. The availability of additional copies is noted on the lists of reserve books (above).
Placing a book on reserve
If you are an instructor who would like a textbook to be placed on reserve (or removed from reserve), please please send an e-mail to library.dentistry@utoronto.ca
