- In order to assist applicants in making informed career choices, the Faculty of Dentistry hereby informs all applicants that:
- they will be required to take part in the care of patients with various communicable diseases including hepatitis and AIDS, during their studies;
- they will be trained in methods of preventing the spread of communicable disease (including body substance precautions);
- there is a risk, however slight, that they may accidentally contract a communicable disease during the course of their studies;
- they have a responsibility to prevent the spread of communicable diseases to others;
- students with communicable diseases may pursue their studies only as long as medical opinion indicates that their continued work does not pose a health or safety hazard to others.
- Neither the presence of a communicable disease nor fitness to continue study will be a factor in considering the acceptability of an applicant.
- All accepted applicants are expected to be in a state of health such that they may fully participate in academic programs, including patient care, without posing a risk to themselves or others.
- An applicant with a communicable disease is required, upon acceptance, to inform the relevant Assistant or Associate Dean who may seek medical advice as to whether the applicant's medical condition may interfere with his/her ability to participate in the academic program. Strict confidentiality concerning the applicant's state of health will be maintained by the Assistant or Associate Dean.
