Advanced Computerized Treatment Visualization:
With the acquisition of "state of the art" computer equipment, as well as the most recent software version the orthodontic residents have first hand experience with up to date computer imaging software. Under the direction of Dr. Richard Walker, the software's developer, cephalometric and soft tissue analysis, orthodontic treatment planning and surgical treatment planning can be readily performed. This information can be used for discussion in interdisciplinary conferences as well as patient consultation and education. Clinical records have recently been upgraded with the change to digital photographs that are being stored and presented using new computer software. This initiative has been augmented with the addition of a clinical digital camera used by the residents to document progress on their clinical treatment.
Interdisciplinary Contact:
The graduate orthodontic residents are exposed to the other pertinent disciplines of dentistry such as prosthodontics (osseointegrated implants), periodontics (gingival grafting, bone augmentation, TAD’s) and oral and maxillofacial surgery (orthognathic surgery) during the programme. This is done through clinical conferences, shared patient treatments and seminar sessions. Affiliation with Mount Sinai Hospital Pain Clinic allows exposure to the latest information in facial pain management and TMD treatment philosophy while affiliation with Hospital for Sick Children exposes the residents to contemporary treatment protocols in craniofacial anomolies and cleft lip and palate.
