Brief Description: The M.Sc. in Dental Public Health provides graduates with the skills to work in government, academic, professional, and other organizations. The University of Toronto's Dental Public Health program was established in 1946, and is the world's longest running program of its kind. Graduates of the program are leaders in dental public health both in Canada and internationally. The two-year program is fully accredited and graduates are eligible for Fellowship examination by the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
The role of public health in Canada's health care system is strong and continually evolving to better serve the challenges of Canadian society. The University of Toronto is at the heart of a safe, stable and economically prosperous area of over 4 million people. The City's many cultures, its activism in leading public health nationally and internationally and the strength of the University's academic staff in public health and health services research, make the University of Toronto the ideal centre to study public health and related issues.
Candidates take courses from dental faculty and from faculty in the Department of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the Faculty of Medicine, and from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Dental public health practitioners from federal, provincial and local government departments, community health centers, and professional organizations assist with the teaching and supervising of students. The faculty illustrate their teaching with current examples from their research and consultations with provincial, national and international care delivery organizations. Students bring with them a variety of backgrounds, further widening the learning experience.
