Web sites will be judged according to technical, content and creative criteria.

TECHNICAL

Accessibility
Ask yourself: Can Helen Keller read my web page? Candidate web sites are expected to be W3C WAI Priority 1 compliant. Priority 1 Check Points are described in the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. Look for [Priority 1] in red for the appropriate references.

Navigation and Links
All hypertext links should lead to the intended target. In other words, no link rot! Xenus Link Sleuth" is spidering software that can be used to check Web sites for broken links. Reference: http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html.

Sites will be reviewed for navigational functionality, clarity and ease of use.

Sites should also include a search facility and/or site map.

bullet

CONTENT

Basics
Each page must bear an appropriate title. Spelling/grammatical errors will knock off points.

Purpose
A statement of purpose to identify what the web site is about and how it is related to the University is required.

Information Organization
The judges will look for perceptual clarity and focus of attention of content.

Copyright
Quotations, images and intellectual property from third parties must be appropriately cited.

bullet

CREATIVE

User Friendliness
Some questions the judges will ask themselves include: Does the site instantly impress? Does the site convey enthusiasm for its subject? Is the site "sticky"? - does it give you a reason to return?

Visual Appeal
The judges will look at general layout and balanced use of space as well as consistency and clarity of overall look and feel.
