Proessor Guisso's primary academic interests are in pre-modern Chinese history, especially the period prior to 750 A.D., and in the history of women in China. He has a B.A. in history from the University of Toronto (1966); and a D.Phil. Oriental Studies from Oxford University (1974). He has also worked and studied in Kyoto, Japan,1968-71.

Professor Falkenheim Chinese political science. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University, Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs; an M.A. and certificate from the East Asian Institute, Columbia University; and a Ph.D. in political science (Chinese politics from Columbia University. He has also conducted field research in Taiwan and Hong Kong 1967-69, and the Peoples Republic of China, 1974, 78, 82, 84, 85, 87, 88, 89-96.
