Study in China, One academic year at Nankai University

Description of Courses

Students are expected to take 12 hours/week of intensive language courses and 4 hours/week of social science or humanities courses, for a total of 38 weeks. Most classes are in the morning. Students completing the program can obtain 3.5 full-course-equivalents in language credits at an appropriate level. All students are required to take a prerequisite course "Background to China". Students can also choose three of the following five optional courses, to obtain 1.5 FCE's in social sciences/East Asian Studies:

    • Outline of Ancient Chinese History
    • Outline of Modern and Contemporary Chinese History
    • Chinese Economic Reform
    • Historical Survey of Chinese Literature I
    • Historical Survey of Chinese Literature II

    The Institute of Intensive Chinese Education to foreign students. The curriculum is designed to help students acquire, within a short period of time, language abilities needed for effective communication.

    Study Abroad by Association for Asian Studies (AAS)

    The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) is the largest society of its kind in the world, is a scholarly, non-political, non-profit professional association open to all persons interested in Asia.     Study Abroad Asia WWW Virtual Library

    The Study Abroad Asia WWW Virtual Library was established in January 1998 by Dr. Kamal Raj Adhikary, Department of Asian Studies, University of Texas at Austin. This excellent website provides multiple listings of and links to academic programs and resources for studying abroad in Asia, categorized by country (China, Japan, Korea, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand), as well as links to information about Asian languages taught in US colleges and universities.     Associated Colleges in China (ACC)

    Students of Chinese are eligible for the Associated Colleges in China program (ACC), a study abroad program administered by Hamilton College in conjunction with Oberlin and Williams colleges. The program emphasizes studying Chinese language through individualized instruction with a high level of participation and interaction. The courses are taught entirely in Chinese and encompass topics including advanced language, Chinese politics, society, economics, religion, art, folklore and literature.
