Project on China and the World Trade Organization
At the centre of this project is an group of experts from Australia, Asia, the U.S. and Europe, chaired by Sylvia Ostry and directed by Alan Alexandroff. The group is now actively monitoring the China-WTO accession negotiations in Geneva as well as developing an informal policy dialogue with key players in Washington. A series of investigative meetings have already taken place in Toronto, Geneva, Tokyo and Washington.
In addition, a number of important research papers have been, and are continuing to be produced on subjects ranging from Chinese administrative and legal reform to East Asian industrial and innovation policies. These and others will eventually be published in a book on the project. The next phase of the project will be to hold meetings in China to foster dissemination of key research findings and discussion of key issues among senior Chinese government officials and influential academics in the fields of trade policy and legal studies.
