Funding Support
Students in this program are covered under the guaranteed funding policy of the Faculty of Arts and Science, which provides for a guaranteed minimum level of funding, plus tuition and incidental fees, for up to twelve months for M.A. students. Funding is also available for Ph.D. students (see Funding Your Graduate Education). This funding support will be provided through a combination of scholarships, teaching assistantships and/or research assistantships. Visit http://www.sgs.utoronto.ca/informationfor/students/money/funding.htm to see more information on the Faculty’s Graduate Student Funding structure. (The document does not reflect our new Ph.D. and its funding. However, we are anticipating an updated document soon. In the meantime, please contact for the Graduate Program Assistant specific information.)
Students entering the M.A. or the Ph.D programs may apply for teaching assistantships and grading positions. Please contact the Graduate Program Assistant for more information.

SSHRC
- Students currently in the Cinema Studies undergraduate program and those in the M.A. program must apply through the Institute. Internal deadlines will be given below when available. This is a time-consuming process, and deadlines are firm. Please consult the Graduate Program Assistant in September if you wish to apply.
- The internal deadline for a 2013 award was October 29, 2012.
- Students from other universities should inquire with their current departments, or contact the funding agencies directly (also in the case of alumni who are not currently registered at a university).
OGS
The School of Graduate Studies has launched the on-line application form for the OGS application for the 2013-14 academic year.
The on-line application form is now available for students to access via the SGS website.
The University of Toronto OGS application will require that students provide the same supporting materials as has been included in previous OGS applications:
- Two Academic Assessment reports (referees will be required to submit on-line)
- Plan of study (approx. 500 words)
- Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions (unofficial or student issued copies are permitted)
- List of previous awards/publications/conferences/research experience
Important note for students: This application will only be assessed at the University of Toronto. Students must submit an OGS application to each institution for which they are seeking admission. OGS awards are no longer transferrable by a student from one university to another.
- The internal deadline for a 2013 award for domestic students applying to Cinema Studies is April 1, 2013.
- The deadline for international students will be the SGS deadline (late March/early April, TBA).
