Stats for Humanities Course

The Department of Statistics at the University of Toronto is offering a course in the upcoming 2012-2013 Calendar year that is catered to humanities students looking to satisfy their Breadth Category 5 requirements as well as the QR components of their programs. Cinema Studies students can use this course to satisfy the QR component of their Major or Specialist as an alternative to INI228H. The course description follows:

 

STA201H1 Why Numbers Matter

This course teaches Humanities students the importance of quantitative reasoning to many different areas.  It explores a variety of applications to such diverse subjects as economics, gambling, politics, poetry, graphics, music, medicine, demography, sports, secret codes, and more, using only basic high school level mathematics combined with logical thinking.

Prerequisite: Enrolment in a Major or Specialist in the Humanities.
Distribution Requirement Status: This is a Science course
Breadth Requirement: The Physical and Mathematical Universes (5)
