Dr.
Yongyuan Yin is an adjunct professor with Sustainable Development
Research Institute at the University of British Columbia,
Vancouver, Canada. He is also an environmental scientist with
Adaptation and Impacts Research Group [2], Environment Canada.
Educated both in China and Canada, Dr. Yin has research experience
and contacts in both countries. He has been providing bridge
functions to link research and business activities of the
two countries. His research interests cover climate change
impacts and adaptation, sustainability evaluation, environmental
and resource management, land use and planning, and decision
support system.
Dr. Yin's research has been focused on developing and applying
computer based decision support systems and integrated assessment
methods to assess implications of various environmental
problems (e.g. climate change, soil erosion, air and water
pollution) and policies for sustainable development. He
designed and applied integrated assessment (IA) methods
to study the impacts of climate change and adaptation in
the Georgia Basin and Mackenzie River Basin of Canada, and
the Yangtze Delta in China. He is also involved in the modeling
component of GBFP. He participated in the International
Joint Commission (IJC) Reference Study on water level fluctuation
in the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Basin. In addition, Dr.
Yin is currently leading the IA within the University of
Toronto CIDA project on carbon sequestration in China. He
has been coordinating the Pearl River Delta Sustainability
project since 1999. He was also the PI of a joint research
project on pesticides exposure risk assessment in the Taihu
Lake area of China.
