Dr.
Xuezheng Shi is a professor for soil science, working for
the Department for Soil Resources and Remote Sensing Application
in Institute of Soil Science, the Chinese Academy of Sciences,
Nanjing, China. He is also a committeeman of the International
Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) Budget and Finance Committee,
a standing committee member of Soil Science Society of China
and the Chairman for Soil Geography Committee of Soil Science
Society of China.
Educated both in China and Germany. Dr. Shi has research
experience with many countries, such as Germany, Canada,
United States, Sweden, Netherlands, France and United Kingdom
etc. and he also has contacts with soil scientists in Japan,
Australia, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Poland. Dr. Shi
's research is focus on detecting the dynamics of soil quality
in main cultivated soils of China, establishing systematically
the Soil Information System of China (SISChina), to set
up the exchange tool for soil research results of China
with other countries, that is, to develop a Chinese Soil
Reference System.
His
current research projects include:
- The
dynamics of soil quality in the case studies of the four
main soil types of China (National Key Basic Research
Support Foundation (G1999011810)) supported by the Ministry
for Science and Technology of China;
-
Soil data integration and their establishment of Soil
Information System of China (SISChina ), supported by
the Chinese Academy of Sciences;
-
Soil productivity model and its application in estimating
the affect of urban land use expanding on food production
using remote sensing data, supported by National Natural
Science Foundation of China;
-
Soil type interpretation among different classification
to develop Chinese Soil Reference System, supported by
the Chinese Academy of Sciences;
-
An interdisciplinary approach to reduce water, soil and
nutrient loss by erosion in the agricultural Hilly Purple
area by combined use of participatory and modeling techniques,
supported by European Union.
