The Major and Minor Programs in Caribbean Studies complement studies in a variety of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The programs will be of particular interest to students intending to pursue graduate work, as well as those interested in careers in teaching, international development, social sciences and journalism.
The courses offered in Caribbean history, literature and thought deal with a wide range of issues including gender, religion, politics, culture, ethnicity, race, development, language, colonialism, regional common markets, etc. The New College ("NEW") courses consider the entire Caribbean region.
The University of Toronto has an exchange program with the University of the West Indies and students may wish to take summer courses or spend a year in the Caribbean to complete their requirements. A bursary program is available to help defray some of the costs.
The Caribbean Studies Program has a
close association with Caribbean student associations on the St.
George Campus. Members of these associations sit on the Caribbean
Studies Program Committee.
