FREE Fri Dec. 7th, 2012, 7pm (Doors open at 6:30 pm) Isabel Bader Theatre // 93 Charles St. W. Toronto >> View MapsDr. Carroll will be autographing his new book. It’s not every day that scientists announce the possible discovery of a fundamental building block of the universe that validates our model of how the universe is put together! On Dec. 7 Quirks and Quarks' Bob McDonald hosts Pierre Savard and William Trischuk, two U of T professors involved in the Large Hadron Collider, and Caltech physicist Sean Carroll, author of The Particle At The End of The Universe, at the Isabel Bader Theatre.

Pierre Savard and William Trischuk
Professors of Physics, University of TorontoHigh-energy physicists Prof. Pierre Savard and Prof. William Trischuk were part of the UofT team involved in the LHC project. The group of 30 UofT researchers, including 16 graduate students, used the SciNet super-computing resources at UofT to sift through the data to identify collisions containing Higgs boson candidates. Their group is now studying a much larger data set trying to understand the properties of the new particle and preparing to upgrade their experiment to search for other new physics processes beyond the Higgs.
